2010 Book/Movie List

This is where I’ll attempt to record all of my reading/viewing pleasure throughout the year. Let’s see how long this lasts. :D *ETA: This is only for books/movies read/watched for the first time. I’m not including things that I’m reading/watching again.
Books
BREATHLESS — Dean Koontz (Entertaining; different than his usual stuff)
DO THEY WEAR HIGH HEELS IN HEAVEN? — Erica Orloff (Incredibly moving; recommended)
THE EYES OF DARKNESS — Dean Koontz (Missed this one when it was re-released in 2008; creepy, spooky, classic Koontz!)
ALMOST A GENTLEMAN — Pam Rosenthal (A fun historical romp)
PERFORMANCE ANXIETY — Betsy Burke (Fluffy, entertaining chick-lit)
THE LIGHTNING THIEF (Bk. 1 of The Olympians) — Rick Riordan (Fun, engaging YA novel. I am definitely looking up the rest of the series.)
THE YOUNGER MAN — Sarah Tucker (Okay Chick-Lit.)
SEA OF MONSTERS (Bk. 2 of The Olympians) — Rick Riordan (Just as good as #1. Looking forward to the rest of this series!)
DINNER WITH ANNA KARENINA — Gloria Goldreich (Ponderous, repetitive. I pushed through, hoping for a really good twist at the end and…nothin’.)
THE TITAN’S CURSE (Bk. 3 of The Olympians) — Rick Riordan (Such fun YA books! I’m totally hooked on these.)
ANGELS’ KISS — Nalini Singh (All right urban fantasy about angels/vampires)
THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH (Bk. 4 of The Olympians) — Rick Riordan (Another great one! I’m a little bit sad that I’m almost finished this series.)
KIDS ARE WORTH IT! (Non-fic) — Barbara Coloroso (Some interesting concepts re: child raising.)
INTERTWINED — Gena Showalter (YA. *Great* premise; execution not up to par. Way too many things going on in this book, half could have been easily cut.)
THE LAST OLYMPIAN (The Olympians, Bk. 5) — Rick Riordan (Okay, this was a really fun series. I enjoyed it a lot.)
A CLEAN SLATE — Laura Caldwell (Satisfying, pleasant chick-lit. A good way to while away a few hours.)
WHAT I REALLY WANT TO DO IS DIRECT — Sandy Ridout & Yvonne Collins (A fun, entertaining chick-lit novel.)
CHANGES (The Dresden Files, Bk. 12) — Jim Butcher (Oh, so deliciously good! Series is highly recommended, if you haven’t already read it!)
SEX WITH THE EX — Tyne O’Connell (DNF. Heroine was TSTL and I just couldn’t continue. Blech.)
ARTEMIS FOWL (BK. 1) — Eoin Colfer (Meh. I finished it, but I don’t think I’ll be going back for more.)
GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING — Tracy Chevalier (Engrossing. Was sucked into this one fairly quickly.)
GIRL’S GUIDE TO WITCHCRAFT — Mindy Klasky (Really rather fun chick-lit. And I didn’t know there are more in the series — until this one ended with a cliffhanger feel. Must look them up now!)
SORCERY AND THE SINGLE GIRL — Mindy Klasky (Second book of trilogy. Still fun. A couple of clunky parts, but worthwhile.)

Movies
THE ARISTOCRATS (DVD) — Not for the faint of heart. Hysterical if you’re okay with scatalogical, incestuous, FILTHY humor. We laughed. What does that say??
SHERLOCK HOLMES (Theatre) — A super-fun romp. Downey, Jr. is absolutely fab in this.
THE INVENTION OF LYING (DVD) — Great concept, falls flat in execution
RUDO y CURSI (DVD) — Lacking a spark that could make it fantastic.
MAMMA MIA! (DVD) — Fun, fun, fun! But I’m an ABBA addict anyway… (ps. Pierce just can’t sing…!)
COP OUT (Theatre) — Silly shoot-’em-up cop movie.
GET SMART (DVD) — Much more fun than I’d expected.
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (Theatre) — Cute and entertaining. Great music.
ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO (DVD) — Saved from the “1.5 hours of my life I’ll never get back” category by a couple of *really* funny moments.
THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT (DVD) — An oldie but a goodie, watched for story plotting purposes.
FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (DVD) — Forgettable. (Ha.) Is this really what people find funny nowadays??
BURN AFTER READING (DVD) — Meh. Brad Pitt was funny, though.
SHINE A LIGHT (DVD) — Interesting. Probably really great for diehard Stones fans.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND (Theatre) — Not bad, but was missing something. Maybe not Tim Burton-ish enough?
G-FORCE (DVD) — Silly. But entertaining enough for a junior set.
MAD MONEY (DVD) — Meh. Was okay. Entertaining enough to watch/listen to while knitting.
MILK (DVD) — Incredibly moving. Sean Penn is fantastic in this one.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (Theatre) — Cute. Not necessary to see in 3D, though, I think.
THE HAPPENING (DVD) — Spooky. Not as creepy as I’d feared, but that’s okay. I’m a big chicken anyway.
IRON MAN 2 (Theatre) — Tons of superhero shoot-’em-up fun. RDJr. is awesome as always.
DISTRICT 9 (DVD) — Strange and disturbing. Really gory, so be forewarned.
ROBIN HOOD (Theatre) — Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated reworking of this story is good, but not great. Crowe’s accent is *everywhere*. Alan Doyle (of Great Big Sea) is cool as Allan A’Dayle. :)
I’M NOT THERE (DVD) — DNF. Just didn’t hold our attention. Cate Blanchette was fantastic, though.
THE SPY NEXT DOOR (DVD) — Kid-friendly silliness. Jackie Chan’s jaw-dropping stunts are still pretty cool, though.
PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE (DVD) — Adam Sandler’s serious turn. Discomfiting and slightly disturbing. Not a happy movie. As B.E. says, how could the guy who made this and The Wedding Singer also make Zohan???
X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (DVD) — Meh. Helped pass time between contractions.
TOY STORY 3 (Theatre) — Really, really good. And sad. Have Kleenex on hand.
GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST (DVD) — Hokey but entertaining romcom.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE (Theatre) — Fluffy and fun, just like the previous ones. Go Team Jacob! W00T! Hehehe.
SAHARA (DVD) — Fluffy adventure film. Good for watching in bits while nursing. :)
THE INCREDIBLE HULK (DVD) — Fun shoot-’em up superhero movie. Effects were cool, as were sightings of Toronto landmarks.
EDDIE IZZARD: GLORIOUS (DVD) — “And now we kiss! With tongues!” Hee, hee, hee. Eddie’s great. :)
17 AGAIN (DVD) — Okay, Zac Efron has serious leading-man potential.
GOOD HAIR (DVD) — Really interesting documentary.
MY LIFE IN RUINS (DVD) — Much cuter than I expected it to be.
THE BACK-UP PLAN (DVD) — Gah. J.Lo should stick to music.
FREAKY FRIDAY (DVD) — Kidlets and I watched both old and new versions to compare. Consensus was newer = better. (And LiLo really was quite talented before she became a train wreck.)
NATIONAL TREASURE (DVD) — Fun adventure-y romp. Nic Cage is good in these types of roles, I think. Might just look for sequel on DVD at library.
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS (DVD) — Hokey. But it helped pass the time while nursing.
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (DVD) — Much better than expected. Meryl Streep is a brilliant goddess.
KNOWING (DVD) — All right. I still don’t mind Nic Cage.
PUSH (DVD) — Blech.
NATIONAL TREASURE 2 (DVD) — As fun as the first.
ANGELS AND DEMONS (DVD) — Entertaining.
MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND (DVD) — Not really very funny at all. :P
JUST MY LUCK (DVD) — Not horrible. And Lindsey wasn’t half-bad. A shame about her, really.
TRISTRAM SHANDY: A COCK AND BULL STORY (DVD) — Meh. Had a couple of funny moments, but that’s it.
