Summer Readin’…

Good morning, gang!

We’re supposed to hit 32C this afternoon — it’s gonna be a bit of a scorcher, to put it mildly. But that’s okay — it’s not -20C and that’s all that matters!

So when the temperature warms up like this, my thoughts turn to lazing about in a chaise longue or hammock with a cold drink and a good book. (Yeah, I know. It’s more of a fantasy than anything else…)

I decided then to do a little class participation, here. Answer a few questions for me in comments, if you would –

a) What are you reading now? And why?

b) Is there anything on your “must-read” list for this summer?

To get things started, I’ll post my answers below the cut. Follow along, if you would…

a) On a whim, I picked up the first Harry Potter book: The Philosophers’s Stone a few days ago and plowed through it, so right now, I’m about halfway through Book 2 — Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Why? Well, they’re light reading, and I’m also prepping myself for the release of Book 7, of course. :D

However, also on my nighttable is a copy of Dean Koontz’s newest hardcover — The Good Guy — which I got a really good deal on — and it’s taunting me. I may have to start it one of these days, too. I do know that when I start it, I won’t be getting much sleep. He’s an author that will keep me turning pages until the wee sma’s. (I know. I can’t believe my restraint, either…)

b) Well, along with The Good Guy, I’m also anxiously awaiting the release of Gail Dayton’s final instalment of her “Compass” trilogy on July first — The Eternal Rose. These books are teh bomb, dudes. Her characters are so well-drawn they seem completely real. And the whole Polyamory bit…wow. Completely engaging. I’m taking this one to read on the airplane this summer.

All right. I know there are more books to talk about, but the morning’s a-wasting, and I’ve got to get outside and finish waterproofing the deck before it gets too hot out there. Have a good one, and stay cool! (Don’t forget to add your two cents in comments!)

I can’t say that I’m reading much right now… I just finished another anthology of great paranormal/erotica writers, and I can’t figure out what to read next. I know… I know… must research it all to pick just the right one for my big bucks. Plus, there are always a few cheesy romance novels sitting on my bookcase.

But what can I not wait for?? What am I going to get the moment it’s out??? Keri’s Arthur’s next book in her Riley series. Due out in August. (don’t know if I can wait that long) Embraced By Darkness… here’s a bit…

Part vamp, part werewolf, Riley Jenson plays by her own rules, whether it’s her stormy love life or her job as a guardian. But when her family’s alpha demands that she solve the mystery of a vanished girl, Riley can feel a trap closing in around her. *snip*. Thrust into a realm of seduction and violence unlike any she could have imagined, Riley has to battle to save everything she holds dear. But the ultimate hunt has only just begun..

    Oooooo… can’t wait!

I’m reading a Debbie Macomber right now. I’ve got a Romance waiting for me too that I want to get to ASAP. Otherwise though my big reading for the summer is Robert McKee’s STORY, which comes really highly recommended. Then I feel like I’m working even when I’m on vacation. Otherwise, whatever turns my crank at the time is what I’ll grab.

Oh, Donna, you’re going to LOVE story!! At least, I hope the book is as satisfying as his lecture weekend, which I managed to catch a couple of years ago in Toronto. Once you read it, you see the structure everywhere! :)
If you ever get a chance to attend his gig, it is really worth the $ for the entertainment of his character and style alone (think Lou Grant, but more crotchety..) He does pretty much stick to the book, though.

Krisstarr, you are my new best friend. :) I’m so glad you enjoyed the books. Thanks for telling your friends.

I read a LOT–this week, I’ve read L.K. Hamilton’s THE HARLEQUIN twice. Probably need to read it one more time to be sure I caught everything. And I read CHANGELING by Yasmine Galenorn–a really cool paranormal series. Finished Eloisa James’s DESPERATE DUCHESSES today, even though I *really* need to read my research book so I can give it back to the library before I move. I’m moving to the beach! This means ALL my reading from now on will be beach reads! What fun. :)

Thank you so much for stopping by! What a thrill — you’ve made my day! :D

I feel like Luigi at the end of Cars:

Guido! There is a real Michael Schumacher Ferrari in my store! A real Ferrari! Punch me, Guido! Punch me in the face! This is the most glorious day of my life!

(’Cept change Michael Schumacher to Gail Dayton, and store to Blog. Hehehehe. And please, nobody punch me. That’d hurt.)
