Lesson Learned

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

So this is what happens when you ignore your gut and do something you know you shouldn’t have done in the first place.

Against my better judgment I commented on a blog post today and got bitch-slapped in return. I said nothing inflammatory nor argumentative. I simply (and carefully) stated my opinion and asked a question.

And got made fun of in a very mean way as a result.

Fine. Consider my lesson learned. I won’t be back on that website anymore and I will keep my mouth shut in future. I don’t like arguments, I don’t like confrontations. My hopes for calm and rational discourse anywhere are dashed — which I should have realized was impossible to begin with. The internet allows people to hide behind anonymity and (I think) speak in ways they might not in a face-to-face discussion.

My time will be much better spent writing stories, pursuing my hobbies and spending time with my family. I don’t need to waste energy on drama llamas (I really rather like that moniker. Heh.) and their ilk. Thanks, ladies, for reminding me what’s *truly* important in my life — and you ain’t it.

So…it appears that Party Starter will not be making it onto an eReader near you anytime soon.

The Powers That Be who were assessing it for publication have given the story a pass. Yeah, I’m pretty bummed about it, but what am I gonna do? The story’s been nixed a couple of times now so I guess that means it’s destined to live in the virtual “box under the bed” where all unpubbed manuscripts go.

So I guess it’s Onward and Upward time. I’ll get back onto something new next week — once I’ve managed to shoo away those damned crows of fear and doubt.

See you then.

Back To Life, Back To Reality

Monday, July 16th, 2012

Did I just put that song in your head? Heh.

So…the weekend was a blur of exhausting activity. We spent Saturday at a camp on a lake and were in the water a goodly amount of the time. It was heavenly! Then on Sunday it was the Mater and Pater’s 45th wedding anniversary, so we made a fancy dinner for them.

All in all, it was a nice weekend, but like I said…exhausting. :P

So now we’re back to the normal routine (whatever *that* is) and back to our scheduled list of activities. I have some work I have to get back onto as well as a WiP to crack (heh. See what I did there?). It’s also supposed to be stinkin’ hot for several more days. Ugh. I guess the A/C will be getting a really rather good workout.

Anyhoo. Such is life. I’m dull and drab at the moment, and still waiting on verdicts for other projects. I guess I have better patience than I thought I did…

Well. Better get back at it, I suppose… Ciao, gang!

…And The Horse You Rode In On

Monday, July 9th, 2012

So last week I didn’t do much of anything productive after all. I got a harried phone call from the Mater asking if I would help sew some simple aprons that she was going to use at a ladies camp retreat (apparently they were going to decorate them). So being a dutiful daughter I did that, and now they’re all done and off to be prettified.

As a result, I did not sew anything for pleasure, which was slightly annoying, but I’ll survive. I have material for three or four different skirts that I’d like to make, plus a bunch of other projects for both munchkins. I’ll get to them.

In the meantime, though, I have to polish and send off my anthology story to the awesome lady who’s going to edit it for me. I’ve also been thinking about a new WiP, which I take to be a Good Thing (you know, actually being willing to sit at the computer again after all the time spent at it in June? Yeah. That.). I think I’ve finally settled on what will be next, so I’ll just spend a bit of time making some notes and putting together a basic outline before jumping in. It’ll be another 15K shortie, so in theory it won’t take too long.

Hey, I wrote 13K in four days. I’m pretty sure I can put together a new story in short order. (All right, I’ll try not to be too cocky about it. :P )

So I’ll keep you posted. The Starr household has some holiday time coming up at the end of the month, so I’ll have to see if I can finish it before we take off. That would be awfully satisfying. Like I said, I’ll keep you posted.

Have a great week, gang! See you again soon!
