Friday Footage - Will She Be Pretty?

Friday, October 29th, 2010

All daughters, granddaughters, nieces and girls/women everywhere need to see this. And we need to think about the messages we’re sending to the young women in our lives.

One Step Forward…

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

So. B.E. is off trekking halfway around the world for business, and I thought, “Gee, wouldn’t it be great if I could tackle a couple of jobs around the house and surprise him when he gets back?”

I didn’t pick anything too strenuous or complicated. Honest.

But B.E.’s trip is almost over and I have crossing nothing off my (very short!) To-Do list.

How infernally pathetic is that? All I wanted to do was a couple of things that would make a bit of a difference in the house.

Instead, real life got in the way, as it is wont to do.

I had a sick Offspring, a battle with a carport that wanted to fly away, shorter nights of sleep resulting in serious sleepy periods during the day (I haven’t napped, though!), and a Junior Peanut who either didn’t want to nap as long as I’d hoped or wanted more attention (ie. being held in Mommy’s arms).

Really. I just wanted to get a couple of things done. That’s all. Apparently it’s going to have to wait until Ms. Junior Peanut is two, or something.

Well, there’s time tomorrow and Saturday. Sunday will be pumpkin-carving day, prepping for the evening’s ghoulish activities and listening to B.E.’s travel stories and viewing photos. I’ll let you know how the week pans out.

Perfection Is The Enemy Of Good

Monday, October 25th, 2010

I wanted to do things today.

Really, I did.

And then the Offspring came down with a nasty cough that precipitated her remaining home today.

Then the heavens opened up and it began to rain.

And I really didn’t feel like trekking out in the downpour.

I don’t know about you, but icky weather usually makes me feel draggy, too. I find it so much harder to muster the “get up and go” when the sky is grey and the day is gloomy.

Sadly, I think it’s supposed to rain all week.

Well, it just means I’ll have to push myself a little harder, that’s all. And the Offspring is ready to go back to school tomorrow, so it’ll just be me and the Junior Peanut. Maybe I’ll be able to get at least a thing or two crossed off the To-Do list.

We shall see.

In the meantime, the baby needs another drink and then I need to hit the sack. Staying up until midnight is just not a good idea.

Friday Footage - Bieberific

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Canadian icon Gordon Pinsent reads snippets from Justin Bieber’s “memoirs” (*SNORT*). He is pretty damned funny. We Canucks rock sometimes. Have a great weekend, everybody!

What The Hell Happened?

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Okay, so here’s the spiel. I had reason to go back and check one of my older posts from a couple of years ago and discovered fifty gazillion spam comments (that for some reason hadn’t been caught by Wordpress’ built-in spam catcher, but whatever). After futzing for a bit with said Wordpress, I finally figured out how to close comments for a post so that the SPAMMERS CAN DIE.

Uh, yeah. Actually, so spammers can no longer do what they do, which is ANNOY people to death.

Anyway. The unfortunate part is it needs to be done post by post (unless there’s an easier, quicker way, in which case someone needs to tell me about it NOW), which is a pain in the tuchus.

But the point of this blog post is I’ve been skimming prior posts as I close them off and I’ve been wondering — just what the hell happened?

I used to be funny.

Seriously. There are some pretty damned witty things I wrote once upon a time. (Go read the archives if you want. You’ll see what I mean.) So I’m wondering. I really don’t feel like I’m that clever anymore. Is it just that I’m much more tired all of the time? So I got married again and had another kid. Did that zap my brain somehow? (No, B.E., I am not attributing blame, so don’t take it that way! ;) )

I just don’t know. Maybe I need more booze.
But in the meantime, thank you to the regulars who’ve been sticking it through regardless. You rock, and I’m so glad you keep coming back!

I’ll do my best to be witty and smart again soon. I promise.

No pressure.

Don’t mind me while I soft-shoe around here for a minute. I’ve got nothing to say at the moment and I’m trying to distract you from that fact.

Did it work?

Well, suddenly I’ve got a million things to do and no time in which to do them. So I’m off like a terd of hurtles (figure that one out!) and I’ll be back when I can.

Thanks for swingin’ by!

Friday Footage - Where The Hell Is Matt?

Friday, October 15th, 2010

I saw this by following links (serendipitous, I tell you!) and I had to post the video because it made me smile, and it actually made me tear up a little. The boundless joy and sheer joie de vivre exuding from this video is so wonderful. It’s a reminder that despite all the crappy stuff you read in the news or see on TV, there is still a TON of happiness in the world. And it’s found in the simplicity of dance. The music is beautiful, too.

To find out more, check out Matt’s website. He doesn’t say where the idea originally came from (or maybe he does, I skimmed pretty quickly), but it seems to be just one of those “grab life by the balls and do it” sort of things.

My only complaint: he didn’t go to Finland! (Full Disclaimer: I only watched the 2008 video, he may have gone another year. I might have to go see…)

And The Reviews Start A-Comin’…

This is a fabulous one for Higher Learning from Leah at Loving Venus-Loving Mars.

Thank you, Leah!

It’s Alive!

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

My Muse threw a tidbit at me last night as I was in the bathroom, getting ready for bed. In the same way that Lovely was sparked, a single, simple image popped into my head and sparked a whole new…something.

I couldn’t just let the bits in my head vanish, so tired as I was I scribbled down a few notes on the back of a junk mail envelope. This time, it’s urban fantasy, and honestly, it might not have an erotic bent. But we’ll blow that bridge up when we get to it.

It’s going to require some plotting and a wee bit of world-building (yes, it’s an urban setting, but there are otherworldly elements involved, so those require some thought), but my interest is certainly piqued.

Yeesh. Well, like I said, even though he/she’s been quiet for a while, at least I know the Muse is still floating around and not completely gone.

This’ll be filed in the “think about seriously quite soon” category. I’ll keep you posted.
