irrelevant (and sometimes questionable) ramblings

Yeah, I did it. I bit the bullet and signed up on Twitter. *No* idea if this will work for me or not, but worst case, I can always eventually delete the account, I suppose. Right?

It’s going to take me forever to figure out how to use it, exactly, so I beg you to have patience with me. I’m over eight months pregnant and suffering from not only baby-brain but heat-induced nausea and general malaise.

Besides all of that, I don’t even know if I’ll have anything interesting to tweet about. (And no, I’m not going to be tweeting through the birthing process. Please. I’ll be just a tad preoccupied.)

…sewing machine!

*rubs hands together gleefully*

Okay, it’s not mine — it’s on loan from the Mater — but I can use it indefinitely, as she has no long-term plans to do any sewing.

Yes, I realize this is making me far too giddy than it probably should, but what the hey. I have a whole whack of projects that I want to tackle, including sewing some safer “bumper pads” for the cradle and crib. (Who knew that traditional bumper pads are now no longer considered safe?!? I didn’t…) Anyway…none of my projects are huge, time-intensive ones, so I should be able to get a few things done fairly quickly. Hey — I like near-instant gratification!

So, in between other chores today, you’ll likely find me hunched over the machine — hopefully not sewing my fingers together, or anything ridiculous like that…! (Don’t laugh…similar things have been known to happen… )

Is there anything Hugh Jackman can’t do??

Whew. Mother Nature isn’t fair to be dumping this weather on a poor pregnant lady.

Yesterday was beautiful, but a scorcher, and today looks to be shaping up the same way. At least 28C/82F (feeling like 31C/88F with the humidity). That’s okay. I have some errands to run today and a midwife appointment, but other than that, I’ll be putting my feet up and taking it easy. Thanks to all the visitors we had over the weekend, the house is quite clean so I don’t have anything really to do in that department. I may see what sort of laundry needs to be done, but other than that, it’s hanging out in the cool basement time for me!

Today is a holiday here in Canuckland, ostensibly to celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday. Which, if you consider BBQs, outings to family camps and booze “celebrating”, is what we do.

Clan Starr is not in possession of any sort of camp, however, so we are homebodies today, and have instead invited some folks over for a barbeque later this afternoon. It’s supposed to be humid and hot, so I think the sprinkler will be turned on for the kids (now is one of those times it would have been great to have a pool…). Should be a great day.

Not much prep to do, as I did a pretty big cleaning on Friday. So just a quick tidy and some food prep, and I may still have a bit of time to do something crafty while we’re waiting for folks to arrive. Here’s hoping today remains laid-back and relaxed.
Now, if only my allergies would settle down…

Not what you’re thinking, I’m afraid. Heh.

However, part of my dream last night might actually be useful for one of my story ideas, so this is a good thing. With all this vivid dreaming I’ve been having the last few months, it’s about time I might actually be able to *use* some of it!

While I mull this over, though, it’s time to toss some ingredients into the breadmaker, do some laundry, clean and assemble the antique cradle for our bedroom, and hopefully even clean the bathroom as well as vacuum and mop the floors.

Too ambitious?

Probably. But if I can at least cross half of that list off, I’ll be in a good spot.

I’ve just had an offer of publication for another book! The fabulous Ellora’s Cave has bought Higher Learning — the one I’ve been waiting to hear back on. No other details as of yet, but I will certainly keep you posted as events warrant! Stay tuned!

Hear that grinding noise?

That’d be the creative wheels in my head attempting to turn. Apparently they’re ungreased, or something. Anyway, that’s how well brainstorming is going. I would like to pull together another Quickie before the baby comes, but it’s not going very well. I do have time, but the words just aren’t coming.

Margaritas would probably help, but they’re not on the menu right now. I’m going back to making some notes and maybe freewriting or something. I’ll let you know what happens.

In the meantime, I really, really would like to take a nap, but the laundry won’t put itself into the machine, dammit.

Oy. This weekend was fabulous, but insanely busy.

And now I’m off again this morning for a little bit, but I shall return and try and post something interesting. Yeah, right.

Anyway. Ciao for now.

Those who know me know that my thumb is actually more on the brownish side than greenish. I tend to somehow always kill everything but the hardiest things. However, this does not usually stop me when it comes to a veggie garden.

This year, B.E. and I have a plan in place for veggies in our own back yard. (Last spring was way too busy with the wedding and everything else to even consider a garden.) I have now started seeds in my little mini-greenhouses inside (read: plastic boxes store-bought croissants came in!) — remember, we’re in Northern Canuckland. We don’t want to take a chance and even *think* about putting anything outdoors until the end of the month, at least! We could still very easily have frost.

Yes, this does make for a short growing season, but we make the best we can of it, and see what thrives in a couple of months.

Ideally — and I realized this *after* B.E. turned over the sod in the yard to make our veggie patch — I think I would have more success with a square-foot garden box, instead, but that’s okay. This year we’ll try it in the ground and maybe next year we’ll try a box version. Maybe B.E. and the Pater can get together and build one or two boxes at some point…

Anyway. We’ll see what happens with the veggies. It’s like everything else — hurry up and wait. But that’s okay, I’ve got plenty on my plate to keep me preoccupied over the summer!
