Places To Go, People To Do…

…or somethin’ like that.

Well, it’s the end of an era. The Starr-mobile will be going back to the dealership on Friday morning. In the meantime, I’ve got an errand or two to run, so I shall enjoy my wheels for another day. Yes, I shall probably be slightly whiny and irritating for a short while after Friday, but it will pass. (We don’t want to annoy everybody, now, do we??)

But for now, let me crank up the tunage and hit the open road. Ciao for now!

Today Is…

…office cleaning day.

…laundry day.

…baking day.

Gee. Think I’ll survive?

I’d swear profusely, but I don’t want to injure my sweet passenger’s wee sensibilities. Y’hear me, Melon Farmer?

Well, you know the drill. If you don’t hear from me in 24 hours, send in the good-lookin’ Mounties.

Six To Eight Weeks

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

That’s all the time we’ve got left, folks, before Miz Junior Peanut makes her appearance in this world.

Holy crap.

Suddenly, all of those things that are on the “do eventually” list now seem a little more imperative. D’oh.

Fortunately for me, B.E. made a pre-emptive strike on the office today and started some of the cleanup. Now it’s a matter of emptying the bookshelves and actually moving the furniture out. (Not to worry, it won’t be me doing the lifting!) After that, it’s a matter of thoroughly cleaning the floor and figuring out the decor of the room (such as that will be). After that point, it’ll be getting the baby furniture in and assembled, the baby clothing washed, folded and put away, and the gathering of all paraphernalia such as change table items (diapers, wipes, receiving blankets, etc.). Eep!

Okay. Slow and steady does it. A little bit at a time and we’ll be fine.

But where the hang did the time go??

Slacker, Slacker, Slacker!

I know. I’ve been scarce. The excuses are varied and many; I’m not sure you want me to list them here.

It doesn’t help that I’m in-between books at the moment. Lovely is rapidly getting ready for Carina Press‘ launch in June, and I’m awaiting judgment on Higher Learning (everything still crossed!).

I know that I should have at least one (if not two) new things on the go right now, but the crows of doubt are doing some pecking in my vicinity.

Well, we have company arriving tomorrow and staying for the weekend, so next week will be a push on getting momentum going again. (Of course, I’ve got various appointments and commitments already booked on the calendar…so I’ll just have to work around them. No other choice, here.)

Hope the rest of your week is grand, and I will do my best to return soon to keep you all posted.

If you go here, you’ll get a chance to see the cover art and read the blurb for my June Carina Press book, Lovely.

I still get giddy goosebumps every time I see that cover…

Stay tuned, because a book launch contest is coming — but only for Newsletter subscribers! (Check out the box in the sidebar to subscribe!)

The library finally has their copies of the next Dresden Files book, Changes. And what’s more, the website shows that my copy is in transit to my local branch.

Whee! Tomorrow or Friday I shall be nose-deep into Harry’s next adventure… I can’t wait!

I feel like I’ve almost done a 180 from the last post. Perhaps it’s just in doing some small chores around the house I’m noticing more and more clutter. But now I’ve got the urge to purge.

(Don’t worry, dear husband, I am not touching anything of yours. ;) )

Now it’s a matter of sorting things out. What’s going in the garbage (hopefully the smallest amount)? What’s going in the charity donation box? Can anything go on Freecycle? And finally, is there anything that’s eBay-able?

Hmm. Lots to think about. Perhaps I may not get very far, but at least it feels like a start. And maybe the momentum of starting will carry on.

At least we can hope.

Gestating Has Short-Circuited My Brain

I’ve got nothing, folks.

Today I am feeling too old for this. I am so bloody tired, yet I look around the house and see a million things that I want or need to do. And that’s not even thinking about the next writing projects.

Why is it that it constantly feels like playing “catch-up” versus being “on the ball”???

If there is a secret — other than winning the lottery and being able to hire a housekeeper and cook — can someone please let me know?

This Is In My Head

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Apparently, I’m slightly distracted and focused on one thing in particular right now. Does this really surprise any of you?

I think I should be sleeping. God knows I won’t get any starting in anywhere from 10-13 weeks. :P

Save A Tree, Eat A Beaver

Or something like that.

Paper is the bane of my existence.

For supposedly living in an increasingly “paperless” society, I feel like there’s more paper floating around than ever before. I have to say my filing system is haphazard, at best, and it’s only getting worse. I really, really need for this shit to be organized so I can

a) find things and

b) have everything put away neatly.

Part of it is, I must admit, a touch of paranoia. I’ve kept things that I’m not sure I’ve needed to keep, all because of a “just in case” feeling. Some things, yes, you need to keep. Tax stuff, legal documents, etc., etc… those are all no-brainers. I just don’t know why I’ve got So. Much. Paper. otherwise.
I keep thinking that once I get the filing cabinet (yes, we even have a lovely filing cabinet, ready to hold all those pesky sheets!) sorted, life will be much better. Delusional? I don’t know. Being self-employed, as it were (the writerly type) I also have receipts coming out of the wazoo.

Don’t ask. It’s painful.

I know people say don’t try to organize the clutter, get rid of it! But what if it’s stuff that you really can’t get rid of…? Then what are you supposed to do? Well, I can’t put this off any longer. I’ve got to start trying to make some headway here. You know the drill. Call in the Mounties if I haven’t reappeared in the next couple of days. :P
