irrelevant (and sometimes questionable) ramblings

I am still grant writing.

I also have to go run 3-4 different errands today.

It’s not the best day to get creative things done, I’m afraid.

Man, do I feel scattered. Couldn’t tell you why. I just hope I remember all the things that I need to do today. A couple are date-deadline specific. Yeesh.

Oh, and snow fell from the sky this morning. Thankfully, it did not stick. That means, however, that it’s damned chilly out there today. Time to dig out the woollies, methinks. Summer (such as it was) is definitely over. *sigh* Oh, well. Not much we can do about that, is there?

I’ll be back, hopefully with something entertaining to tell you. Or not. We shall see.

I’m sitting here, surrounded by paper at the moment, attempting to put together a grant application for the Canuckian government — in the hopes of getting some supplemental money for subsistence costs.

In other words, so I don’t have to worry about extra cash to buy groceries, and so I can continue to stay at home and slog away at this so-called writing gig.

So as I said, I’m up to my eyeballs. The envelope has to be postmarked by October 1st (I know, I’m such a procrastinator!) so I’ve got to get it to the post office by Thursday. I have no idea if an erotica writer can get grant money, but hey — all they can say is “no”. And all it takes is a few hours of my time to put all of this together. Yanno?

Anyhoo. Just letting you know what’s up at Casa Starr. I’ll be getting back into the swing of the book ASAP.

I’m also considering resubbing Lovely (you guys remember that one?) to another e-book pub. I think I may give it a read, tidy it, and see if I can find it a new home. Wish me luck!

We’ve got ‘em both here, in spades.

Well, the chaos of the birthday weekend is now over. B.E. and the Offspring are now well and truly feted, and so my work here is done. In that respect, anyway.

I am also very glad school is on today because said kidlet decided on a full-out tantrum this morning. Am still considering some sort of eBay or Kijiji-type deal on the back burner.

Anyhoo. It’s back to the book, some laundry, changing bedding, and then I’m off to do my duty and donate blood today. At the same time, I’ll pick up B.E.’s birthday theatre tickets — we’re going to see a show in October.

Hm. Today would have been a great crockpot stew day, if only I’d been prepared for such a meal. Well, I think comfort food is definitely on the menu on a blustery day like today. (Actually, in retrospect, I’d much rather stay home and not go anywhere, but I’ve already had to postpone this appointment once.)

I had the joy of waking up with a headache this morning, but thanks to pain relievers I believe I have kicked it! *w00t*!

Believe me, this is a very good thing. I have a number of errands to run this morning so that we’re ready for the Offspring’s birthday party tomorrow, and now I can do them in relative comfort.

So essentially today is mostly a wash. Errands, then prep work for the party (because I don’t want to be doing a bunch of stuff for it still tomorrow morning ) then swimming class for Offspring tonight… there goes the day.

That’s okay. Once tomorrow’s over, things will be a little more back to normal (or whatever that is around here). It’s just the getting there that’s tricky.

Why, oh why is there no such thing as Brain Bleach?

I desperately need to scrub my brain out. This is what I get for randomly following internet links until I read part of a story that has now given me permanent goosebumps and raised the hair on the back of my neck.

The alternative could be a Harry Potter-style Time Turner, so I could go back and change my mind at the last minute and NOT read the freaky stuff I did.

*shudder*
Of course, it doesn’t help having a vivid writer’s imagination, either. This is why I never, ever, ever watch horror movies anymore, or read things like Stephen King books.

Note to self: STOP while you can. DO NOT read further if you can avoid it. Gaaaaah!

The reviews are slowly starting for Sweet Tart! I just got a nice one from Vee at Night Owl Romance, who gave the story a 4.25 out of 5! It says, in part:

Sweet Tart takes a fun idea and plays with it. Abbie and Seb are spurned into sex acts by the commands printed on candy hearts. Obviously, they have no power against the sugar deity and must do what it says. Reading it was as fun as eating candy, but less filling.

After yesterday’s fun and busy-ness, I am very glad today could move at a slower pace.

I’ve been working on the WiP, but I’m not entirely thrilled with it. I’m at a crux in the story and having difficulty with how to handle it. I did a lot of adding and deleting this morning. I may need to stew on it for a while to get it to come out right.

The problem is there’s a big reveal, and I don’t know if I’m hinting too much, or maybe not enough, or perhaps something else entirely. Hrm.

I may actually break with tradition and skip to another part and work on that. At least it’ll add to the word count, yanno?

I’ve been glutting my inner historian watching Marilyn, Elvis, Beatles and Jim Morrison videos and being reminded about how some days I think I was really born in the wrong era. Oh, well. It is what it is, no?

(And no, there are many, many modern things that I appreciate very much and would not give up for love or money. I’m not pining. Not really. Just imagining.)
