irrelevant (and sometimes questionable) ramblings

Being childless when the Offspring has a sleepover at the Mater and Paters has its perks, and its disadvantages.

Not being woken up at 6:30AM by tiny frozen toes is a definite plus.

However, not being woken up at 6:30AM by tiny frozen toes is also a disadvantage.

It’s a disadvantage because I’ve learned I will not be as productive and energetic throughout the day if I have a lie-in that morning. It’s much more effective (though tiring) for me to get my weary ass out of bed at 6:30, shower, dress and get ready for the day, so that by 8:30 or so, I’m kick-started and ready to go with whatever needs to be done.

So. I’ve written off my “puttering” today as my “Get out of jail, free” card day. Tomorrow, I’ll be back into more of a grind, so to speak. (Not the friendliest of descriptions, but hey…)

And in other news, I will get the CD of photos tomorrow from ye auld photographer, so I’m looking forward to that, for sure.

However, now is the time to pull stuff out of the freezer for the BBQ tonight, and go collect the Offspring. Fun stuff!

Well. My desk has now been reassembled, and the computer reconnected. All is good thus far in the Starr domain. I am looking forward to working in this office — I think it will be great. There’s a big window with lots of light, especially in the mornings, and I envision an excellent creative space once all is said and done.

In the meantime, though, it’s all about the cardboard boxes. I figure we’ll empty them all by, oh… Christmas, perhaps.

In other news, I’m so far behind on people’s blogs…. *sigh* Oh, well. Onward and upward, as they say…

You have no idea.

Yesterday, I had a 4.5-hour nap. A NAP. Frankly, I’m not even sure that would constitute what can reasonably be defined as a “nap”, but it was in the middle of the day, so I suppose that’s the point.

And then today, after bringing the Offspring to school, I came home, and B.E. and I both collapsed and snored away for a few hours, waking shortly after 1PM. I am surprised neither of us is coming down with a cold or something after all this… But we *have* been running more than full-tilt for months now, so I suppose it is to be expected.

Anyhoo. This week constitutes a “mini-honeymoon”, as we’re not going away anywhere in the near future, so I suppose frequent napping is par for the course.

That’s my story, and I’m a-stickin’ to it.

Okay, technically not today. It was two days ago. But still.

Sorry for a lack of updates, but you know how it is! We are up to our eyeballs in boxes and chaos, but now we can start creating our little nest in the way we’d like.

I am alive, and soon to be plunking myself in front of my computer to get going on stories again, so fear not!

(Except for those times we’re coming up with kinky new ways to spice up the “old married couple” sex life…. Hehehehe.)

And neither am I a man.

Three hours of cleaning the new house this morning. Then several more hours of packing stuff here. Fighting with the seating chart due to odd numbers.

There was other stuff I’d intended on doing tonight, but forget it. I’m going to bed. A worn-out me is no good to anybody!

I’ll try and pop back soonest to keep you all in the loop.

Starting now until the 16th, each day has at least one task assigned to it. I figure if I don’t break it down into somewhat manageable chunks, by Friday the 15th you’ll find me cowering in a corner of my room, gibbering incoherently and gnawing on my knuckles.

At least this way, I can pretend some sort of semblance of control over the rest of the To-Do list. Can’t tell you if it’ll work or not, but today seems to have gone fairly well.

I will keep you posted as best I can.

You have no idea how I can’t wait to get settled into the new house and get into a proper, regular routine…

I confess: I am haunting the Weather Network website.

It’s the long-term forecast I’ve been keeping my eye on. And thankfully, while the 16th still looks to be cooler than one would like, the predicted temperature *has* risen by a few degrees.

So now, instead of +7C (45F) as a high, the little yellow line has now moved up to +13C (55F) for the day. Ironically enough, two days later, the temperature is expected to spike up to +18C (64F).

*sigh*

At least it’s supposed to be sunny.

And yes, before you start writing your comments, I KNOW that it’s all a crapshoot in the end. By the time the day rolls around, the temperature could plummet or spike dramatically. Who knows?

The point, though, is that I just don’t want to freeze. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’d file a complaint, if I knew where to file it, and to whom…

The keys to the new house are now in our possession. Yay! Home-ownership has begun!

And I tried on my newly-arrived dress today — and it doesn’t need any alterations! This is good news too.

Finally, there’s just one more thing: fifteen days to go…
