Tuesday morning is back to school for us in this part of Northern Canuckland, and I know I’m ready for it. Thankfully, so is the Offspring. She’s quite excited about seeing her friends again, and I think she’s ready for the challenge of learning and homework.
Our temperature really dipped here today, so it felt like autumn. So much so that I had long sleeves and long pants on. Brr! At least the weather is supposed to warm back up this week, so it won’t be *quite* jackets and socks time yet!
I think I like autumn the best. Thick sweaters, crunchy leaves, crisp air, the scent of woodsmoke, warm apple pie. Mmm. While spring is also nice, it does tend to be wet and muddy. Summer is great, but I hate bugs and can’t handle humidity. And we’re not even going to talk about winter. Yuck.
September feels more to me like a time of “starting fresh” than January does, frankly. New school years, new routines, new extracurricular activities and classes. Things get busy again, but it’s a good busy, don’t you think? Of course, pretty soon we’ll be thinking about Christmas (eek!) — or, at least, I will, because I want to make a bunch of my gifts this year, so I’ll need to figure out who’s getting what and get cracking. (Yeehaw!)
Anyway. I suppose this is me feeling somewhat nostalgic or somethin’. All this to say that I really like this time of year. It’s goal-setting time, and time for new stuff to happen. So here goes nothin’, huh? For those of you heading back to those hallowed halls of learning, good luck! And for those parents who aren’t — congrats on surviving another summer!!
