I have lost a notebook.

Not just any notebook, but one which contains various notes and character information for a story that I am supposed to be working on. I am lost without this notebook. I can’t remember any of the details that I jotted down, with the single possible exception that I think I named my heroine Eloise Soleil (no clue on the last name). It was a name chosen purposely. Same with the hero’s, which is also gone from me.

I rail at the universe, but it’s my own damn fault for not putting this notebook safely away before I buggered off from home for three weeks. I’d better damn well learn my lesson from this, and figure out a single, key location for any of my business or writing materials. Yes, I do have a room that was initially my office, but the addition of Ms. Junior Peanut effectively relocated me to the living/dining room. Which, frankly, ain’t no place to seriously work. :(

I hope I find it sooner rather than later, but I fear I shall stumble on it just as the deadline for this particular novella rushes by.

Promo? I Don’t Haz it

Friday, June 28th, 2013

I really need to be able to hire my own promotions person who can go around tooting my horn for me, because obviously I really suck at it.

Bottom line — there’s a new story out. It’s part of a great little anthology I had the fortune of participating in called 2003 Hardin Way. I have a cover image, but it’s not handy at the moment. I’ll try to get it up here asap.

It’s available at Amazon here, and at Smashwords here. I hope you’ll take a look-see, at least!

Now back to your regularly scheduled radio silence. *sigh*

I wanted to call this post “A Man With A Plan”, but I could not, as, even though I might be in possession of that aforementioned “plan”, I am not, and never have been, a man. But nothing else (that I could think of in fifteen seconds) rhymes nicely with “plan” and is feminine in nature. So that’s that.

Speaking of said plan, there has been a change of SOP here at Clan Starr. It came to B.E.’s and my attention the other day that there is just entirely too much electronics-based activity going on here. Cell phones, iPods, laptops. Too many noses pressed against various-sized screens. Particularly among the junior set, but that doesn’t exclude us, either. We’re equally guilty.

So the biggest change has been in the introduction of a new house rule: No electronics in the morning before a) school, or b) 9am (on weekends). And up until now my habit has been to procure a delightfully fresh and hot mug of coffee (and possibly either a muffin or a couple of slices of pulla, depending on recent baking sessions) and settle in to check email, Facebook, Pinterest and whatever-have-you before the noisy patter of tiny feet makes itself known.

This will be no longer. At least, for the foreseeable future.

Friday was difficult. I desperately wanted to check in. See what was transpiring in the Webiverse.

And then it occurred to me: I couldn’t imagine there being anything — anything at all — that was SO DAMNED IMPORTANT that it couldn’t wait until 9:00.

It was an epiphany.

But for a moment, I was lost. What would I do with this newly discovered time? How in heaven’s name would I occupy myself? And then I remembered a distant pleasure, one lost of late.

Reading. FOR FUN.

And suddenly, I got excited. I could spend that half hour, forty minutes, whatever it happened to be before the kids woke, READING. Don’t get me wrong. Like any other bibliophile out there, I have stacks of books that make up my TBR list, but I’d fallen into a trap of believing I just didn’t have any time nowadays to dig into that pile.

And lookie that, folks. I found the time.

So, even though it’s early days into this new routine, I’m enjoying it a LOT. I think that even though there may be days where I’ll crave some early-morning internet time, those feelings will quickly pass. And in the meantime, I’ll be able to dig into those stacks of books and rediscover the pleasure that I’d almost completely lost.

S’cuse me while I go read another chapter, because I’ve been sucked into this book I just started.

*aka the sound grownups make in the Charlie Brown Peanuts specials.

I was about to say that that’s the only thing you’re hearing from me right now, but… that’s not entirely true, is it? You’re hearing less than that. Okay, how about nothing? Nada? Zip? Zero? Zilch?

Yes, yes. I know you’re smart. I don’t have to belabour the point.

In case you haven’t heard (and you likely haven’t, I think I’ve only talked about it on Twitter, maybe? I ferget…), there’s a NEW STORY COMING! I had the chance to take part in a neat little anthology that a group of us are self-publishing, and it should be live very soon (it’s just currently with our fabulous project co-ordinator, being formatted for publishing). It’ll be available at Amazon and Smashwords, I think. Don’t quote me on that quite yet. I’ll post the legit details as soon as I have them — I promise!

Anyway. Other than that, I don’t have enough frakking hours in a day. ‘Scuse me while I go collapse. :P

It’s Here!

Welcome to release day, gang!

Head here to pick up your very own copy of my newest book — Party Starter! I’ll be back later to post some music videos of songs that helped inspire this book, so stay tuned!

And thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the book!

Release Day TOMORROW!

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

Apparently I really do suck at this promotion nonsense. I have a NEW BOOK out tomorrow and have said nary a single word to promote it.

Well! Despite that, I hope folks are interested in my new wee volume and will pick it up the moment it is available. I’m going to write a couple of posts in the next couple of days that will show my musical inspiration for this story — and there certainly is some! So I hope you’ll come back and take a look. I’ll be Tweeting about new blog posts as they come up, so keep an eye out! And if you’re not following me already on Twitter, come and find me! I’m @Kris_Starr

On that note, I’m going to log in to Twitter now and start yammering a little. We’ll see how clever I am…!

Coming Soon…On An eReader Near You!

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

Get ready, gang — Party Starter is on it’s way to you. Stay tuned — same Bat time, same Bat channel — because starting January 9th, you’ll be able to add a new Kris Starr title to that shiny eReader Santa brought you!

Yup, the release date has been determined! Trust me, I’ll be keeping you posted on any further developments as they are warranted.

In the meantime, stay warm and dry, and be good — ’cause Santa’s watching! (Hm. I guess that makes him the ultimate voyeur, huh?!?)

Can’t say much yet, but something good is on the horizon. I’ll be back when things are official!

I know. Aren’t I a meanie to keep you all on your toes like that?

I promise — it’ll be fun!

The End

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

(Of course, writing that just stuck The Doors song in my head… This is the end/beautiful friend, the end.. *sigh* Damn earworms.)

Anyhoozle. I am pleased to report that initial work on Party Starter is complete. The book is essentially done, and all I need to do now is read it through, tweaking as I go, and then send it off for a second pair of eyes to take a look at it. I may expand the final scene. We’ll see what my beta reader says.

After that it gets forwarded on to the lovely folks at Ellora’s Cave where it’ll receive a Yea or Nay, and then we move on in whatever appropriate ways from that point.

But this is good news in the land of book writing. I am back in the saddle, no matter how slowly the damned horse is moving.

I’ve got a short-short idea, plus a group anthology project, not to mention a pseudo-sequel for Lovely on the back burners.

So as the Muppets say, “Movin’ right along!” (Geez, it’s earworm song night at Chez Starr, apparently… :P )
