Why, Yes, Yes, We Do Have More Fun

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Whilst pregnant with Ms. Junior Peanut, I elected to go au naturel with my hair colour. (Yes, I know, there may or may not be a link between hair dye and fetal issues. Nothing is proven either way. In the meantime, I preferred to err on the side of caution.) And now that I am also no longer a food source (almost completely moo juice with a bit of formula mixed in — whee!) I believe it’s time to have some follicular fun.

I shall be blonde once again, people! Can you stand the excitement? I don’t think I can!

Full disclosure: The type I’ve selected is actually a semi-permanent, which means it slowly washes out. I find with these the “growing-out” period is less noticeable — ie, the unsightly roots are less dramatic. Yes, I could go and get highlights done by my fabulous hairstylist who does amazing work, but frankly, this time around the box purchase is easier on my wallet. Maybe next time (perhaps in time for the family wedding coming up in late September) I’ll go see her and get her to work her magic.

Vain? Perhaps. Is that going to make me change my mind about this? Not in the least. :)

Catch you on the blonde side, gang!

Lady Of Leisure

(Not suits, that is.)

Today was the appointment for the makeup trial run at the spa. Both Rella and I got all dolled up, and I have to say — there is something to be said for having a professional makeup artist put your face on for you. We look absolutely stunning. Unbelievable.

Mind you, it *did* take almost an hour for each of us, so it’s not an everyday-type thing by a long shot.

We did joke that it would be great to have someone on-call to be able to do this regularly. And a hairdresser, too. And then, hell, why not a personal trainer on top of that? And a chef? Housekeeper?

Ah, to live the life of the obscenely wealthy. :)

In the meantime, of course, I shall savour my occasional spa visits when they happen.

Smooth Like Baby… Uh… You Know

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

It’s no secret I love the pampering of spa visits. I treated myself to a hot-oil manicure tonight which was heavenly — extra moisturizing for my ultra-dry hands, and soaking in warm oil to heat up those chilly digits. So nice!

In fact, if I had some extra disposable income I’d certainly head to the spa more often. Manicures, pedicures, facials, body wraps, scrubs… you name it. Unfortunately, those visits fall into the “luxury” category which, with the New House on the horizon, will be at the very bottom of the priority list.

Oh, well. This just means I have to get more stuff written and sold, so the royalty cheques can help keep me primped, buffed and polished. Hard work = rewards.

What do you like to do to reward yourself? What qualifies as “me” time for you?

ps. B.E. — I hope you paid close attention to this post. ;) Hee hee hee…

Looking For More Fun

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

That’s it — I’m officially now tired of being a brunette/redhead/whatever the hell I currently am, and I’m going back to blonde. Yes, I know, it’s a shitload more work than staying dark, but honestly, I miss my Marilyn-esque self.

Along the same lines, I’m also growing the locks again. I feel like I look too boyish this way, and I don’t have the knife-edge cheekbones or swan-like neck to pull off the short chop. No, I probably won’t go quite as long as my hair was before, but probably shoulder-length, at least. We’ll see as we go. And now starts the horrid growing-out stages.

Maybe I should just wear a paper bag over my head for the next six months…

Doubting Thomasina

I am penitent.

For a brief time, I had considered deserting my longtime hairstylist in favour of someone younger and presumably hipper — but also more expensive and more in-demand.

Thankfully, impatience saved me. Because on Friday I decided I needed another change now, and it would have been a minimum of two weeks to get in to the “trendy” salon. So I called my regular stylist and she was able to take me the same day.

You know what? I got a really cool, funky haircut for less than half of what the other stylist would have charged. I’m rather glad I resisted temptation and didn’t cheat, because it all turned out incredibly well in the end.

I’m also going to go blonder again, just for fun. I’ll probably do that this coming weekend. I’ll keep you posted. :)

ps. THREE SLEEPS! I can’t believe George Time has almost come…!!!

A Passion For Fashion

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I would have written “Hatred” instead of “Passion”, but it didn’t rhyme. Although that’s how I really feel about the matter.

One of the problems about living in a smaller town is the lack of decent clothing stores. I have not one, but TWO family weddings to go to this spring, and I have yet to find anything to wear. My closet was emptied of all the fancy stuff last summer when it got too big for me. (Yeah, I know: complain, complain.)

So I spent the day tooling around IN MY NEW CAR doing some clothes shopping, and I found nothing that I liked. :P And the handful of garments I thought were *okay* ended up looking nicer on the hanger than they did on me.

The bottom line is, I spent all day burning gas IN MY NEW CAR, with not even one dress to show for it.

Bah. Bugger.

Well, at least I got to drive around IN MY NEW CAR. And there *is* a last-minute shopping trip to the big ‘burb of Toronto scheduled in a week. Keep your fingers crossed that I’ll find something, otherwise I’m going in my pajamas. (Well, at least that way, I’ll be *extra*-comfortable. Heh.)

ps. Yes, I got my car. The weather’s lousy today, so I can’t take a picture, but the minute I can, you’ll get to see it. I promise. :)

You Can Dress Her Up, But You Can’t Take Her Anywhere

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Why, oh why is it so bloody hard to be a girl sometimes?

You know those women who are impeccably dressed? Not a hair out of place? Heaven forbid a speck of lint?

That wouldn’t be me.

As much as I like dressing up and attempting to look professional, I just can’t quite seem to do it.

I was reminded of this the other day as I was changing out of my work clothes. Somehow, I’d snagged the pretty white decorative stitching on my black blouse, resulting in pulled threads. (Which, of course, stand out like sore thumbs against the dark material…)

No matter what, I just can’t stay pristine. (You know, I’m not sure I ever even start that way…)

Slacks covered in lint? That’d be me.

Errant threads? Me again.

Scuffed shoes? Moi.

Snags and/or runs in brand-new nylons before noon? Yup, you guessed it.

I’m telling you, if I could wear jeans, a t-shirt and flip-flops every day of the week, I’d be the happiest camper on earth. Sadly, that’s just not even in the realm of possibility.

But damn…at least I’d manage to look a little neater. :D

Once Upon A Time…

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

There was a girl with looooong hair. (See exhibit A below.)

And then one day, she went to the hairstylist’s…

Hold Me Back…

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

In their upcoming “campaign” (read: the next catalogue), Avon has all of the sparkly, glittery, shiny lipglosses I love ON SALE for $0.99 EACH.

*hyperventilating*

Somebody hide my chequebook. And somebody restrain me. Any volunteers?
Heh. :D

Now I’m off to make a music playlist for New Year’s Eve. Because I’ve got absolutely nothing else (like writing a novella) to do tonight… Nope, nothing at all…
